Rainy weather pest control Brisbane – Should I Reschedule?

Our two year old loves a good bit of rain and splashing around in the puddles, but often this is not the same feeling our Brisbane Pest Control customers experience when they have a pending pest treatment.

Despite the high level of pest activity throughout the year, peak pest activity in North Brisbane often occurs during the tropical wet season. This year, we have already experienced a significant amount of rain. As a result, pest treatments and rainy weather may coincide.

We understand that our Brisbane Pest Control customers may have concerns about the effectiveness of pest control treatments during overcast and rainy conditions. However, in almost all cases whether they are applied before or after, rainfall does not affect our treatments. The reasons for this are simple:

  • Mos homes in North Brisbane have eaves and guttering that protect the areas where treatments are applied. Unless the rain is coming in sideways with strong wind gusts against the walls, the treatment can proceed as usual.
  • Pesticides are fast drying and insoluble. When applied to a dry external surface, liquid pesticide adheres to the surface and dries within 10-30 minutes. Once dried, the pesticide cannot be washed away or diluted by rain.
  • When the ground is soft and damp, pests like ants and ground spiders often come out from hiding underground to escape the moisture. This makes the treatment more effective as we an apply it directly to the pests.

In most cases, there is no need to cancel your pest control treatment. However if you plan to have the external perimeter of your home treated after rainfall, there are still a few extra things to consider:

  • If it has been raining heavily for days and the weather is expected to worsen, it may be best to reschedule the external treatment.
  • Pesticides need to “bind” to the surface they are applied to so we do not spray soaking wet walls. If the external walls are soaking wet due to heavy rain, our technician will advise treating only the protected and internal areas. They will then return to complete the external areas once the weather has improved.

In summary, if we weather prompts you to consider rescheduling, please consider the above points in relation to your home and the type of treatment you have scheduled. Rest assured that Flash Pest Control will always contact you on the day and discuss any necessary changes to your appointment.
